Our mission with OneFamily is to equip, encourage and sustain couples in their marriage and parenting journey. During this unprecedented season when families are required to stay home and maintain social distancing, we want to be an encouraging and sustaining resource that will equip you with practical insights and tools to help you take hold of the opportunities for a productive and fruitful family time.
This week we want to share some great ideas from the Widmier Family:
- Special Chore Chart – On our Resource page we’ve added the Widmier’s chart as a spreadsheet that you can use as a template for your own family chore chart. As they explain, “The top section has daily family expectations (with no allowance) that must be met daily before they can earn money by doing the additional lower chores. If they do 5 chores in one day, they earn $1 for that day. We have used this opportunity to teach the girls some basic cooking, how to use a vacuum, etc. and they have really taken ownership of this!”
- PDF (Playtime, Downtime, Familytime) – From Stanford University Graduate School of Education, research shows that engaging in PDF every day can support better mental and physical health. See PDFs for Preschoolers, Elementary-aged kids and Teens on our Resource page for some great tips!
Quick Tips & Family Enrichment
- Restaurant Night at Home – Support your local restaurant and order a special meal to have at home. Have the kids “create” the restaurant environment and/or role play being a server!
- Online Field Trips – Hook the laptop up to the TV a take an online field trip to a Museum, Zoo, National Park or explore the World! Here are some links:
- Free Online Family Workshop – Mealtime Manners & Behavior is a fun lesson for Parents and Children to attend online together! There is no other training context within moral education that is as compact and saturated with a call to self-control and otherness-sensitivity than which flows from mealtime. Embedded within mealtime etiquette are otherness virtues that intuitively resonate with people. This online workshop will feature a 40-minute video followed by a question/answer session and discussion. We have 2 sessions to choose from (each session limited to 20 signups):Saturday 4/4 – 3:00 to 4:00pm – http://evite.me/18TFymghRF
or
Sunday 4/5 – 4:00 to 5:00pm – http://evite.me/jFVxAxv2M6
- Lunchtime Learning for Parents (kids can join in too if you wish! ) – Growing Kids God’s Way – Condensed & Accelerated Class. The complete course in 8 sessions over 2 1/2 weeks!https://GKGW.eventcombo.comWhether you have taken Toddlerhood Transitions, Parenting from The Tree of Life, or Life in The Middle Years, this is a special opportunity for parents, during this extended home time, to “get back to the basics!” While some of the material may overlap, there is plenty of content that digs deeper (with greater insight) into the many of the concepts that makes up the core of all these classes combined.
Please send us your success stories, tips, ideas and best practices so we can share them with other families! We’ve already received some great ideas and look forward to passing them along to you in the coming days!
Blessings to your family!
